Murderous Love #3

Murderous Love is a collection of songs inspired by, and written, during the dark winter months. While I was snowed in for almost a week during the big freeze last January, I wrote and recorded most of these songs - alone in my tiny bedsit. At the time I felt like I was in some sort of a cocoon, while the harsh elements threatened at my window I was safe and comforted, surrounded by the sounds I was making.
As the months grew warmer and my album took priority over finishing these songs, I knew I would have to wait until the weather grew cold again before releasing this collection and here we are!

Once I began working towards finalising Murderous Love, some new (EP completing) songs came to the surface and I decided to include them so now it has become more of a 9 track album than an EP, but what the hell.. it was meant to be an EP so I'm going to call it an EP.

Since I am releasing this EP as a download and not getting a run of CD's pressed, I have been nusy making some hard-copy physicals for the real music lovers out there. I have completed two hard-copy options.

The first is a 7"x 7" mounted print of the EP cover image (pictured below) accompanied by a CD-r containing the 9 EP tracks (3 of which are hidden from the public stream)

The second is a tri-fold CD package that I have carefully designed and handmade to include a detachable mounted print of the cover, a cd-r with the 3 bonus tracks and also 3 music videos and an Illustrated lyric book (illustrations by me).

Both packages and of course the download itself are now available to pre-order from my bancamp page. ENJOY!

Murderous Love #1

My next EP, entitled Murderous Love, will be released at some point over the coming months, but I cannot say exactly when. I'll be releasing it when the evenings begin to get dark again, when the chill begins creeping back underneath the door at dusk and when we begin to wake with that nip of cold on our little noses in the morning.

What's There To Hide #3

My mother died this week. I am devastated.. very sad. She was only 47...

I thought I would be reacting far more than I am, and given my fascination with death and the conspicuous references to grief and sadness and loss I seem to sprinkle on my songs like chilli flakes, I though this time would be the worst time of my life. However, I have in fact not found it so!

I am posting again about 'What's There To Hide?' because when I first referenced it, back in October, I was only just coming to terms with the fact that my mother was probably going to die - she has been battling cancer for nearly 3 years.
It was the energy of the sadness and grief I finally allowed myself to connect with back in October that led me to create the seeds of this piece on that very night.

I find it strange that I stumbled across the folder containing this work only two weeks ago and on the spur of the moment I began work once more on the piece. I instantly felt that grief and sadness I had embedded in the work on that dark October night returning (and healthily so, as it it mirrored exactly the real life situation of my mother - who as I now know, had already started dying)
Within a week she was gone and now I feel it's most important I channel my true and physical grief into the piece. I'm finding this process most healing....

I have big plans for this work and all that I have mentioned in previous posts is still relevant, I just dramatically misjudged the time-frame as the piece has clearly taken on a life of it's own and will not be adhering to my plans for it.

'what's there to hide?' post #2

I would like to reveal the cover for the next release I have lined up (after the double album which will be out Dec 3rd)

The piece 'What's there to hide?' will be released on 12" Vinyl (100 copies) in January of next year

The A-side of this limited edition 12" will have the piece in full (a 20 minute long symphony of sorts) and for the B-side I will be creating miniatures of each section as individual short pieces (for those with a shorter attention span like myself)

I am planning on doing one live performance of the piece some time in the new year, where I will be able to project the full length visuals I have been compiling and perform the piece in it's entirety.

some preview video footage soon to come!

What's there to hide?

Last night I began a new piece of music - "What's There To Hide?"
I also began to make a visual to accompany it, well.. not really to accompany but more to encourage more creative ideas by looking AND listening while developing it.
It is going to be about 25 minutes long when it is done and I hope to bring it out as a limited edition 12" vinyl release...

A Morning Brings Mourning

I woke this morning from a dream, singing a song that I managed to remember most of on waking! I got up and recorded as much of it as I could get out of my head into the laptop and spent the next 10 hours working consistently on the piece until I had completed it!

In the dream I met the father of my lover. He sadly passed away nearly 3 years ago before I had the chance to meet him, but in the dream I got that chance (even though he had just passed in the dream too....) funny how dreams do that - and are completely made in your own mind! Extraordinary the emotional impact a single dream can have on the body and mind. I fully felt when I woke that was carrying the grief of the whole family on my shoulders.

One thing was certain anyhow, nothing else on my agenda for the day was going to go ahead until this thing had gotten out of me..

At about 11pm I rose from seat realising I had almost crippled myself with hunger - I threw the ingredients of a chilli con carne in a pot and awaited my knight in shinning armor to arrive home with big fat chipper chips... taco fries, chedder cheese and burger sauce - best medicine!

This is the photo I have decided to use as the image for the song ("Mourning Song") Which I have now put up as a free download on my Pledge Campaign Page
